Annual Load Bank Testing

An annual two-hour load bank test is often required under service contracts and is the most effective way to ensure that emergency power systems will perform as expected when needed most. This test runs the generator at 100% load for a minimum of two hours, helping to identify potential failures and increase system reliability by deglazing the engine.

This test is separate from the critical building load functional test, which primarily focuses on verifying ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) and MFR (Manual Fault Reset) sensing.

Day Tank Drain Back Testing

Frequently, service specifications overlook the critical importance of testing fuel system transfer processes to ensure that once the day tank quantity drops to the fuel pump start level, a command is triggered to initiate the fuel pump. Where the arrangement permits, Sinelec undertakes day tank drain-back testing as part of their regular system maintenance. This testing achieves two critical outcomes:

Sediment Removal: The testing drains any sediment that might be sitting at the bottom of the day tank back to the bulk tank, which has a larger capacity and is constructed from thicker steel, making it less prone to the impact of sediment or water. This helps ensure the diesel engine filters are not drawing up contaminants.

Fuel Pump and Alarm Verification: It also verifies that the day tank alarms are functioning properly and confirms that the lead/lag fuel pump arrangement operates correctly. This ensures the fuel is replenished, and pump operations are automatically stopped once the day tank reaches its full level.
